Caring for two disabled parents left a regional high school student graduate with little hope of attaining her dream of attending college. Support from an I-CAN advisor changed that.

A skill with tools and a welding rod, the result of growing up in a family who were resourceful, mechanically inclined and liked to fix things, a recent TBAISD graduate landed an apprenticeship at an area manufacturer. The focused career path was the result of early interaction with an I-CAN advisor and one of the student’s teachers and a counselor who had earlier identified the student’s potential, and began forming a plan to realize it.
